New funeral home planned for Burlington
Apr 10, 2018Rochester-based Integrity Funeral Services, operated by Adam and Cindi Schweitzer, is proposing a $1.5 million funeral home to be called Integrity Celebrations at a roughly 4-acre property at 2789 Browns Lake Drive. The property is adjacent to the AmericInn at Milwaukee Avenue (old Highway 36) and Browns Lake Drive (Highway W).“We hear all the time about the funeral celebration of life,” Cindi Schweitzer said. “People are looking for convenience. We are not a traditional funeral home.”The Schweitzers plan to build a 5,991-square-foot funeral home, complete with an 84-seat dining room, indoor gathering area, catering kitchen, offices, an outdoor patio and an 814-square-foot, one-unit apartment for the caretaker. They also plan a garage on the property and 97 parking spaces, including five handicapped-accessible car stalls.“There are a lot of churches meeting in the movie theater or hotel banquet space or high school gymnasium. So many churches don’t have (people) to serve meals. They have to go with a catering company,” Schweitzer said. “They want convenience, but if they don’t have a home church to go back to, then they come to the funeral home.”The Schweitzers plan to close on the property in September and hope to have the new facility open by January. The project would expand Integrity’s offerings for funeral services that are now based at 2934 Evergreen Drive in Rochester, just four miles away, where the Schweitzers have a 3,000-square-foot funeral home and a chapel that seats 50. Many of their larger funerals have been conducted in Waterford at places like the Cotton Exchange restaurant or the Rivermoor Golf Club.“We find people enjoy that — a one-stop shop of having a service, then right into food and beverage for celebration,” Schweitzer said. “When we use those (offsite) areas, we are limited to their schedules, so now we’re going to offer it through our own family.”In the funeral business for six years, the Schweitzers plan to keep their Rochester property and expand the family business with the new property.Schweitzer said nea...
